Getting There:

Great Point Lighthouse is located inside the Coskata Coatue Wildlife Refuge at the far northern end of Nantucket. The lighthouse sits about seven miles beyond Wauwinet along sandy over sand roads. Most visitors reach it with a four wheel drive vehicle and a beach driving permit or by taking a guided tour through the refuge.

Climbing to the top of the lighthouse is possible only through the Great Point Natural History Tour, a guided experience offered by The Trustees. Visitors climb to an observation deck roughly 60 feet above the beach for sweeping views where Nantucket Sound meets the Atlantic. Tours require reservations and typically run seasonally.

Early morning and late afternoon offer the best light for photos and a better chance to see seals along the shoreline.

Check Conditions Before You Go Beach driving conditions can change with tides and storms. Always check refuge rules, tide charts, and vehicle requirements before attempting the drive.
